Decoding RPO Codes

GM RPO Code ListSo, what’s an RPO code? And how can it help you?

If you’re an owner of a Ford, Chrysler, or GM vehicle and know about RPO codes, you've probably already discovered their usefulness.

If you’re an owner of a Ford, Chrysler, or GM vehicle - and you DON’T know about RPO codes - the following information will be extremely useful to you.

RPO stands for Regular Production Option and is standard coding for vehicle configuration options.

What do the RPO Codes Designate?

Each RPO code is a combination of three alphanumeric characters (like Z71) that refers to a specific option or modification to the vehicle as built during production.

The RPO codes identify the base model of the vehicle along with options such as paint color, engine, infotainment system, wheels, etc.

In some cases (such as with General Motors RPO codes), the RPO has become so identifiable to a specific vehicle that the code has become a part of the vehicle’s model name: Camaro Z28, Silverado Z71, Corvette Z06, Corvette ZR1.

Where are the RPO Codes Located?

Your vehicle’s RPO codes can be found on a sticker in the vehicle’s glove box or compartment.
