Before proceeding with replacing a turn signal bulb, ensure the following:

·        Follow all required safety precautions and guidelines.
·        Refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual for any specific safety instructions.
·        Put on a pair of work gloves, preferably leather or some thick material.
·        Switch off the vehicle’s engine and ensure the vehicle is on a flat ground before starting work.
·        Buy a good quality and the correct-fitting turn bulb accordingly to your vehicle’s make and model. Refer to your vehicle’s manual or reach out to a Tascaparts.com customer service representative if you are unable to find the right fit.

Step 1: Finding the correct bulb

The bulbs manufactured by auto manufacturers come in different variations. Therefore, you must have the right bulb for your vehicle. Check your owner’s manual for more information on the right bulb for your vehicle.

Now, turn the ignition on and then turn on your turn signals one side at a time. Walk around the vehicle and check which one has failed or is damaged. Once you are done, switch off the turn signals and turn the ignition off.

The next step is to disconnect the battery of your vehicle. Use the correct wrench to loosen the nut on the cable that runs to the battery’s negative terminal. Push the cable to the side of the battery to ensure it does not come into contact with the negative terminal. You can leave the positive cable as it is.

Now, open the trunk or the hood of the vehicle, depending on where the bulb is to be replaced.

Then, you must find out how to access the turn signal bulb that has to be replaced. Inspect the area around the turn signal for any screws that hold the outside cover. You can also refer to your vehicle's owner’s manual.

Step 2: Removing the Old Turn Signal Bulb

Once you have determined how to access the bulb, remove the components or pieces in the way. Plastic pieces may contain fasteners that could break when being removed. Be careful not to damage any other component or parts while removing the bulb.

Then, proceed with disconnecting the wiring. In most vehicles, this could be pulling back or pressing in on a clip, and then pulling the harness away from the bulb housing. Ensure you pull the clip and not the wires, because the wires may come out from the harness.

After the wires are removed, hold the base of the bulb seat and turn it. In most cases, you will have to turn them counterclockwise. In most vehicles, the bulb is designed to be released with just a slight turn before it is released completely. In some cases, you may be required to exert a bit more force to loosen the bulb.

Then, pull the loose bulb out of its housing. Normally, the bulb will slide out once unscrewed and you will be able to remove the bulb and its plastic seal.

Step 3: Installing the New Bulb

To remove the damaged bulb, hold the plastic seat in one hand and grip the base of the bulb with your other hand. Pull them apart and the bulb will come out.

Then, take the new bulb and insert it into the plastic seat.

Ensure you do not squeeze the damaged bulb hard as it could break and cause injury. If it breaks, remove it from the housing using pliers to avoid any injury.

Another important point to consider is that you must not allow your skin to touch the new bulb. This is because the oils from your skin could stick to the new bulb and damage it. Use gloves or a rag while installing the new bulb. In case you do end up touching the new bulb, wipe it down thoroughly with some rubbing alcohol to clean it.

Now that you have inserted the new bulb in the plastic seat, place them both back into the signal light housing. Then, turn the bulb clockwise (to the right) a little so that it is locked in place. Check if the bulb and the plastic seat are firmly fastened to the light housing. If you find it difficult when inserting the bulb, check to make sure nothing is blocking the entryway.

Then, reconnect the wiring that you earlier disconnected. When you connect the wire harness to the bulb seat, press it onto the clip until they connect. You will hear a click sound indicating that the harness has been connected.

Check if the newly installed turn signal is working properly. If it is not working, check for any loose connections.

After you have ensured it is working properly, reinstall all components or pieces that you had removed earlier. If you had removed multiple components, ensure all of them are installed properly. If you have any doubt, refer to the vehicle’s owner’s manual. If you have damaged any fastener accidentally, replace them with matching ones from Tascaparts.com.
