An American Revolution

Above all else, the Dodge brand is resilient. Like their trucks (which are now sold under the RAM brand name), Dodge has proven itself durable through even the toughest of times. Financial crises, ownership changes, the fickle American market – Dodge is still in the running.

Historically known for producing aggressively-styled muscle cars characterized by straight-line performance and power, Dodge is considered by many to be the performance division of Chrysler. Top selling models today include the Charger, Challenger, Dart, and Viper.

And while Dodge has decided that the Caravan is having its final curtain call, they continue to produce passenger vehicles, like the Avenger, the Durango, and Journey, with a focus on quality and performance.

Born Dodge

Let’s take a quick look at the ownership history of one of America’s oldest auto manufacturers:

1914 – Horace and John Dodge introduce Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle’s first automobile, a four-cylinder touring car.

1925 – Dodge is sold to Dillon, Read & Co.

1928 – Dodge is sold to the Chrysler Corporation.

1998 – Chrysler Corporation merges with Daimler-Benz AG to form DaimerChrysler.

2007 – Daimer and Chrysler separate, with Chrysler being bought out by Cerberus Capital Management LP, a private equity firm.

2009 – Chrysler partners with Italian automaker Fiat to form Chrysler Group LLC.

2014 – Chrysler fully merges with Fiat to form FCA, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
